Overview of New Cisco Certified Cyber Ops Associate (200-201 CBROPS)

Cisco has retired two CCNA Cyber Ops certification exams on May 28, 2020, and they have changed the certificate name to Cisco Certified Cyber Ops Associate. There will be an overlap between the former exam and the new exam, especially in terms of basic topics. However, there are great changes here. Cisco combined the SECOPS and SECFND exams into one exam, 200-201 CBROPS, which was launched on May 29, 2020. Cisco is simplifying processes to ensure that it is relevant to the security situation in the next decade. It is beneficial for you to understand these changes and prepare for and pass the Cisco Certified CyberOps certification exam.

I. What is the Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate Certification?

Cisco believes that this certification is the first step in starting a career in cybersecurity and cybersecurity operations. It covers the basic skills and knowledge required by professionals to succeed in the challenging cybersecurity field. The 200-201 exam includes the following areas:

  • Safety concept
  • Security Monitoring
  • Host-based analysis
  • Network intrusion analysis
  • Security policies and procedures

As you can see, the 200-201 CBROPS exam covers the basic skills of cybersecurity. You need to conceptually understand the topics, including encryption, PKI infrastructure, firewall, and antivirus, as well as some specific technologies, such as Wireshark, TCP, and SIEM. The certification has passed DoD 85701.01-M certification and is suitable for CSSP analysts and CCSP incident responder categories, so it is very suitable for IT professionals who work in or want to work in government departments.

II. What you need to know: 200-201 CBROPS

The new Cyber Ops exam 200-201 CBROPS has a 120-minute time limit and contains 95 to 105 questions. There are no prerequisites for the exam.

III. What has changed?

This is part of a larger effort to maintain the applicability and relevance of the Cisco exam. A major takeaway is that the exam is a condensed version of SECOPS and SECFND. At a higher level, the new exam includes the same range of materials as the previous two exams-from endpoint threat analysis to incident handling to security monitoring. However, it seems to be less deep. For example, the cryptographic field of SECFND requires an understanding of hash algorithms (MD5, SHA-1, etc.) and encryption algorithms (DES, AES, etc.), while the new exam requires candidates to describe, for example, the impact of encryption on the visibility of data. Although it is important to understand the different types of encryption (especially for your work), the CBROPS exam requires a more theoretical problem framework, which is both good news and bad news. The good news is that you don't have to remember so many acronyms or distinguish between so many similar technologies while the bad news could be that you need to cover a larger area to master all the content required by this exam.

IV. Why should you get a new CyberOps Associate?

Cybersecurity is one of the fastest-growing areas in the world. Since 2018, we have seen an increase in global job opportunities of 8.2%, and we expect to see about 3.5 million cybersecurity job vacancies in 2021 alone. Cisco claims that six out of ten security jobs require certification. Obtaining certification shows that as part of the security operations center team, you have the ability to prevent, detect, and defend. This is the only way to ensure your professional development, promotion and become a more valuable safety expert. Besides, this exam can be served as a stepping stone to other certifications and more advanced positions. If nothing else, getting a certification can strengthen your confidence by proving to yourself and potential employers that you have the capabilities you need to thrive in the challenging cybersecurity field.

V. Final thoughts

As organizations use technologies such as public clouds and the Internet of Things to expand their network coverage, new attack vectors have emerged increasingly.
