The Value of an AWS Certification

Certifications would be considered as quite a controversial topic in IT Field. Some argue that obtaining certification would be able to make you more marketable, while others think that they might have a negative impact by giving the impression that you would be just compensating for the lack of experience. Regardless of what are your views on this issue, my personal experience with certifications, in general, has been proved to be a quite positive one throughout my career. Obtaining an IT Certification has opened many doors for me and it might have set me apart from other candidates. So, if you too are choosing this certification, you could have it through the SPOTO Club, as I have joined.  

So why to go for AWS certifications?

1. AWS is Becoming the Gold Standard of the Cloud Quickly

AWS is considered to be leading the pack in almost every aspect. According to Gartner, Amazon’s cloud would be considered to be 10 times bigger than its next 14 competitors, combined as one! This is bad news for the folks who are at Azure and Google Cloud Platform but it is great news for you. Whether you’re a web developer, a system admin, a database admin, an IoT developer, a Big Data analyst, an AI developer and the list goes on and on, your life would be made much easier if you would be taking advantage of Amazon’s platform. Their offerings touch almost each and every aspect of technology, and discussing them would be outside the scope of this article. They would be constantly adding more offerings as well as innovating in a way that is leaving the competition in the dust.

1. AWS Certifications Are Feasible and Within Reach

Unlike other vendors, Amazon would be offering a realistic certification path that doesn’t require highly specialized and expensive training to start. I am not saying that it might be very easy to get certified, but you won’t behave to quit your job and pay for expensive training to get your first AWS certification. The most common approach would be to start with the Certified Solutions Architect Associate. It is considered to be a great way to get familiar with the AWS ecosystem as well as core services. You would be required to have an associate certificate before you would be able to sit for the professional or specialty exams. Moreover, AWS would be required that you would have your Solutions Architect associate certificate before you could take the Solutions Architect professional test, or that you have your Developer or SysOps Associate certificate before you would be able to sit for the DevOps Professional test.

1. AWS Skills Are in High Demand as well as Pay Top Money

With that being said, please remember that if you just gain the AWS Solutions Architect certification, it wouldn’t automatically mean that you would be making the annual salary indicated in the table above. Many other factors would be at play here, including your other skills, experience, geographic location, etc. The point is, proving to potential employers or existing employers that you would be competent in using Amazon’s cloud offerings. Also, you would have a great positive impact on your career. About a week ago, I was able to clear my AWS SysOps Administrator exam after clearing both the Solutions Architect and the Developer exams. I am currently exploring opportunities, so this would be the true test of whether this effort would be paid off. Regardless of what the result is, I would feel that I have truly gained a unique set of skills that would be very handy in my side projects and future career opportunities.
